Tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day and oh my goodness I’m so excited! Yes it’s commercialized and yes you’re suppose to treat everyday like it’s valentine’s day – when with you partner BUT come on – even if you don’t like Valentine’s Day, you must at least like the love it represents!

I’m such a hopeless romantic – everybody knows this!! (Including my bf!) Therefore I celebrate this day like it may well be my last, because let’s be honest with each other – when can a grown up woman wear head to toe Pink/Red and not get strange looks? Only on Valentine’s Day!

This year I’m going at it in full force – I even got my colleagues to share in the excitement. (Against their will, but nevertheless – they are partcipating!)

So, to all the people out there who doesn’t necessarily appreciate this money making commercialized day, THINK twice – you won’t be getting this much chocolate on any ordinary day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Love,
J

Plait Away

After seeing Superficial Girl’s fabulous hair plait from Spoilt Salon I couldn’t help but try it myself. A plait/braid always looks amazing and can either be worn to a formal or informal event. So I – together with the assistance of Z1 – tried it on Z2. Although the final product didn’t look as fabulous as Superficial Girl’s – it’s not too bad for a first attempt; I think! Your thoughts?

P.s – please note this exercise was initiated and completed in a dodgy restaurant bathroom somewhere between Cape Town and Up the Creek!

Myself and 3 friends were invited to attend the launch of the newly built (it burned down in 2009) Mangwanani African Spa at Zevenwacht (Kuilsriver, Northern Suburbs) and what a relaxing and beautiful experience!

We were beyond pampered  - our day/evening included a full body, foot and leg as well as a back and neck massage, dinner, snacks, beverages and the most amazing view, which I actually cannot describe! Although the road to the spa is quite rough and uneven (I nearly had a heart attack) it is very possible to take it on with a normal (not a 4×4) car. You’ll have to drive in first gear but believe me – It’s SO worth it!

We had our faces painted, drank bubbly, ate delicious food, had the most amazing treatments and the view – my goodness; nothing  I’ve seen before. During the day you are surrounded by vineyards but when the sun sets, the street lights welcome you into their world and you cannot help but relax and be thankful for what you are witnessing.

It was absolutely beautiful and it comes highly recommended!

Here are a few Pics!

Yesterday I returned from – what may well be – one of the most fun Music Festivals I’ve been to in ages; Up the Creek in Swellendam.

The weather was perfect (except for the wind which tore our tent); there we’re loads of amazing bands playing all over the festival grounds, friendly people from all walks of life…and…the Bacardi Twister Game!

Myself and my two best friends attempted this rocking camp weekend and although some people (perhaps ourselves) had their doubts, we pulled it off. Yes, our tent tore but hey, we got someone else’s AND we didn’t even have to put it up or take it down (YES!!) Yes, we had to walk to get our own drinks but hey, it’s good for the rear – we had the most amazing time – just us 3. No worries, no nothing! And – we even got to witness a WEDDING! YAY!!

P.s – I quite enjoyed the KONGOS (I was newly introduced).

Here are a few pics from this weekend. ENJOY!

It’s Up the Creek time again and man I’m super excited – it’s my first year going but from what I’ve heard; it can only be fabulous!

This week has been extremely hectic – full work days and social gathering every day of this week’s evenings! The only thing I really wanted to do this week is treat my hair, paint my toe-nails and watch a chick flick. Unfortunately this didn’t quite work out as I’ve planned it; I did however manage to squeeze in some pamper time tonight! (Yay!!)

Anyway – back to the point – Up the Creek; we’re leaving tomorrow morning at 5:30am – a girls only trip! I think all our BF’s are laughing at (let’s say with) us; imagining us (trying to) put up the tent! Lol!

My bags are packed, the food (and drinks) shopping has been done; the car needs to be packed (I’ll just toss everything in the boot) and then we’ll be off!

I’ll post some pics next week about our Girls Only Up the Creek Experience! It ought to be funny – but super fun for us!

Once a week myself and two of the coolest girls in the world meet up for dinner party – rotating houses. Last night was my turn and – as I promised them – went all out!

I found the most amazing Food Blog – Food and Fabulous – and then I came across a very interesting Recipe; although I’ve never had Aubergine I was excited to try and put this dish together! Z2 is Vegetarian so it’s always exciting to try new things and experiment with different ingredients. This recipe was perfect for the ‘Gourmet Sense of Style’ I was wanting to treat them with.

Myself and Z1 are not vegetarian so I thought some chicken would really be missed but alas – it was PERFECT; a recipe I would recommend to anyone. I did however think it would be too little food so I opted for a 2nd dish – a Butternut, Beetroot, Feta, Red Onion and Roasted Sunflower Seeds recipe which I found on Harvest Brighton and Hove. I did serve it cold though.

These are my attempts at these dishes – personally I think I did a job well done; it tasted Delicious!

What is your favourite dish to try?

Last night I had the privilege of attending the {absolutely amazing} Shirley Valentyn with Shaleen Surtie-Richards at the Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch and what an experience!

Firstly – when walking into the theatre room you are welcomed by the smell of a delicious (ve-ge-ta-ble) curry (I was so hungry; so this really got my excited!) and then Shirley (Shaleen) opens her mouth with a glass off Graca in hand and immediately pulls you in.  Most of us know Shaleen as the famous Nenna of the acclaimed Egoli (place of Gold) but what I witnessedf last night was talent that stretches above and beyond!

You will laugh (loudly) and cry (softly or loudly – as you wish) with Shirley – while going through her live’s ups and downs; what she thinks about sex and Mr. Livingston (You’ll love the story behind this ‘character’).

I was astonished by what can be ‘created’ on such a small stage – I walked out of there with a new lease on life; wanting to be more and more importantly; Live! Shirley Valentyn in her Colour Coordinated Crocs and Glass of White Wine has taught me that you need to LIVE your life; oh and that Costa is not just a name of a bar in Greece but rather a very attractive Greek resident!

Shirley Valentyn comes Highly recommended!
